Ernesto Laclau

He is an Argentine political theorist known for his post-Marxist thought and theory of radical democracy, distinguished by his work on ideology, discourse analysis, and political identities.

Ernesto Laclau (Argentina, 1935–2014) served as the head of the “Ideology and Discourse Analysis Program” and the “Centre for Theoretical Studies” at the University of Essex. He taught at various universities in Europe, North and Latin America, as well as in South Africa and Australia. His lectures mainly focused on rhetoric, psychoanalysis, politics, and new social movements.

Together with Chantal Mouffe, he initiated an ongoing fundamental debate through their book *Hegemony and Socialist Strategy*, in which they developed the theory of post-Marxism and radical democracy, advocating a “radical, libertarian, and pluralistic model of democracy.”

Some of Laclau’s works published in Turkey include: *İdeoloji ve Politika* (Belge Publishing), *Siyasal Kimliklerin Oluşumu* (Sarmal Publishing), *Hegemonya ve Sosyalist Strateji* (Birikim Publishing), and *Evrensellik, Kimlik ve Özgürleşme* (Birikim Publishing).
