
Slavoj Žižek
Slavoj Žižek is a Slovenian thinker known for his deep philosophical work on psychoanalysis, Lacanian theory, and contemporary politics.
Slavoj Žižek (1949 – Ljubljana/Slovenia); earned his doctorate in the philosophy of German history. He is known for his analytical works focusing on psychoanalysis, Lacanian thought, popular culture-politics, philosophy-politics-current politics, and influences among thinkers. Since 1979, he has been a faculty member at the Institute of Sociology and Philosophy at the University of Ljubljana and has also worked at various universities around the world.
After the breakup of Yugoslavia and Slovenia’s independence, he ran for the Slovenian Presidential Council in 1990. The “Ljubljana School,” named after the university he teaches at and regarded as an intellectual core, actively participated in the founding process of the new Slovenia.
He also gives lectures and conferences at various universities in Europe and America.
